Free Online Services From Your Local Library

By -

You already know about (and hopefully take advantage of) the books, music, and dvds that are available to borrow for free from your local library. But did you know that your library card likely also gives you access to extensive online resources?

Check with a librarian or on the library website to see what is available. The website for my local library (The New Hanover County Public Library in North Carolina) has a section called “eResources” which includes access to NCLive.org – an online collection of free ebooks, magazines, newspapers, journals, etc. Everything from popular women’s magazines, to sports, to highly specialized professional publications – all without a subscription fee, I just need to use my library card number to log in. I just noticed that there is even a section of Genealogy resources – that could be interesting to check out!

I also have access to the North Carolina Digital Library where I can “borrow” an ebook by downloading it to a PC. Take a moment to explore what is available through your local library.
